Modify a Cable to be used with a PAL Connector

Take an existing video cable or create a new cable from scratch.  Cut the old connector off or for a new cable, then cut away any excess or stray pieces of copper and plastic. Ensure that you have a nice clean flat surface to work with.

Now you can remove the old connector.  Remove 1/2 inch. of the outer layer plastic with a knife while being careful not to cut the wire mesh braid.  Use a pointed object or screwdriver to unthread the wire mesh.

Twist the unthreaded wire mesh together into one piece.  Remove the plastic grommet around the center copper conductor leaving between 1/8 and 1/4 inch.

Trim the copper conductor so that when the connector is assembled, the plastic grommet touches the body of the connector.  Twist the braided mesh backwards, away from the center conductor.

Insert the cable into the connector and crimp the fasteners around the braided mesh.  This will both strengthen the connection and isolate stray radiation from  interfering with your picture.  Remove any excess braiding that extends past the end of the connector.

Use a small screwdriver to secure the center conductor to the center pin of the connector.  This will provide a good electrical path for the television signal.

Pull the protective plastic cover over the completed connector.
